I have taken my four posts on the "he descended into hell" (descendit ad inferna) clause in the Apostles' Creed and combined them into a paper. I have also added new material, mostly in the footnotes. I'm especially eager to point to the Appendix where I document the translation trajectory from Hebrew ("Sheol") to Greek ("Hades") to Latin ("Infernus") to English ("Hell") in the Old Testament, the Apocrypha, and the New Testament.
I only hope some time to be able to study God's word so comprehensively as you have.
Before I read your paper, I was trying, ineffectively, to explain some of this to a friend at church a few weeks ago. He looked at me with an eyebrow raised as I muttered unconvincingly about Hades, Paradise, Sheol and Gehenna.
Now, of course, I have your paper to refer him to, should the issue recur.
But anyway, I'm glad that for us Christians, it pales into insignificance compared to the new creation Jesus inaugurated and that God's building through and for us.
